When I was in your position, I asked the allotment secretary which one he thought was best, and chose his advice - they were all an equal state (mostly only untended for a few months) - but this was the medium sized one, and had fruit bushes already in it.
Have a look at my allotment blog

Has the plot ever been used by local kids as a bmx track and "army training" centre? Little devils even built trenches and mounds. If it wasn't now my plot, I'd be impressed with their ingenuity and design skills. It's not an amateur effort.

Looking at your posts you'll have seen it now. A piece of barren land ready to cultivate. I've had a couple as I've moved around. Nothing quite like the feeling of seeing the plans in your head of what you could do with it.

          Good luck.

Well I have a plot waiting on the paper work to arrive but its mine, (well technically sharing it with a friend)

10m by 30m which seem the standard on this colony, from what the locals have told me not tended for over 18months.

I think we have done rather well
Two sheds both water tight as it was raining this morning when I visited,
              Slab path the full length
              Slabbed area about 4mx8m
              Pear tree
              Two apple trees
              3x3 area of raspberry bushes
              Rubarb patch
Lots of beds covered in plastic although weeds have come through in section.

Only negative is its about 40m away from the main water and the plot to the right is also overgrown. but if thats it i am happy let the clearing begin!!

Good stuff although 4m by 8m seems a lot of hardstanding which could be put to better use on a 10m x 30m plot, it's over 10% of the whole thing!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Good point maybe my 4m x 8m is wrong will have to take a tape with me tomorrow, spent just half hour their this evening filled two bins full of weeds, not wanting to do too much until all the paper work is through just incase someone has made a mistake, Imagine I clear the whole plot and the middle of next week someone turns up

Am going to try and start a blog of something not sure what is the best way of charting my progress can anyone offer any help?
