  • Mares tail? How do i get rid of it!

I have been on my allotment for 2 years now, and the one thing that has grown bst in that time is Mares Tale!

Is there any sure way of removing this weed?

I was going to double dig this year and prep the beds, but each of the beds have a walking space between them, and whilst i can prep the beds, i'm sure the roots of the weed will still get in from these paths.

just keeping digging and pulling it out when u see it.........its a nightmare weed but stays around. I know someone who has tried everything, just try to get out as many roots as possible and when you see new shoots, slowly pull it out, black root and all, if u hear the snap, wait 2 days lol..........good luck......i have lots too, just gotta live with it!
Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

Make up a five liter spray keep it on your lottie and when the marestail appears give it a squirt, you are not spraying willy nilly you are spot treating I went from a plot covered in the stuff in two years to a bit here and there, no harmful residue as the chemical changes into a fertilizer.

With most weedkillers you must break the waxy surface to allow uptake. (rub between bricks). Never seen 'Deeproot' before what is the active chemical?

Maretail is indeed a horse's A*se ... the roots can go down over 30' But ultimately if you are diligent and get every new shoot you are starving it of light and it has little surface area of leaf.. trouble is when it is amongst permanent crops.

Mares tail is a right bugger. I didn't notice much on the allotment last year, but this year its everywhere, and spreading. It particularly likes where my potatoes are... i'm going to go around with the round up as soon as the potatoes are dug up (not long now, surely..)
