Last year I grew courgettes for the first time. Sowed seeds in small pots and kept them in the unheated conservatory until they sprouted, then put them in very big pots and into a green plastic greenhouse on the terrace. (I grow everything in containers. Easier on my back then when the weather was clear of frosts I put them all outside. I got lots of courgettes, every one perfect.
In November last year, I bought a greenhouse. Sowed the courgette seeds in small pots and kept them in unheated conservatory same as last year, then into big pots and put them in my new greenhouse. Aha! (I thought), this year I'll have lots of great courgettes). Daytime frosts were over and the inside of the conservatory was protected with bubblewrap to protect against night frosts.
The leaves of the courgette plants went a yellowy colour with big whitish patches on them. They looked as if they were poorly, so I put all the containers outside and they all became healthy (or so I thought
Out of 12 plants, only two are giving me nice courgettes, the others look
like half blown up balloons, with the tips being yellow and gradually rotting down. I'm doing exactly the same as I did last year. Keeping them well watered and fed once a week. I'm so disappointed as I eat a lot of courgettes (love them roasted with tomatoes, onions, peppers etc).
What am I doing wrong? Why do most of my courgettes look like half blown up balloons?
