  • Help Please re planning

    Hi,
I've just got a piece of land through Landshare and am now looking at the best way of planning my fruit and veg. At the mo I have been doing it in my garden but I now have a plot of 250 sq m so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Christine

Well done you! I'm glad Hugh's mighty plan is working (actually it was my plan years ago, but he took it and ran with it )

I would divide it up into quarters (for a rough 4 bed rotation), AFTER you've marked off your permanent planting areas (for fruit, asparagus, rhubarb etc).

    1) legumes
    2) brassicas
    3) alliums
    4) roots & spuds (I don't manure spuds, so this works for me)

Other (corn, squash) can fit in any available gaps

First decide where you want your greenhouse and/or shed,
then decide where you want your permanent crops like fruit bushes and rhubarb.
Then split the remaining area in 4 so you can grow a different family in each quarter each year,
then split each of your quarters into beds no more than 4' wide (so you can reach the middle from the without trampling all over the loverly soil)

I'd use weed fabric 'paths' for the time being, and I'd grow for at least 12 months before I made the paths/beds more permanent so that you can see what works for you.

      Have fun - sounds lovely!

And welcome to the Vine - can you pop your rough location in your profile?

Welcome to the Vine Chrissie. Plans are wonderful. I did have one, but lack of time and weed-free space messed it up somewhat! I will get back on track one day.

          thanks guys for that.
We have been down today and marked all the plots out just need to dig it all up now.
We have one big bed for the fruit trees etc.
We then have 6 beds, 5 for rotation and possibly use the other two for salads/others etc. We then have a bit of land left so have decided to use that as a seed bed or maybe herbs, not sure yet!
Thanks again, will certainly be using this website so will update my details.
