Showing Garlic Bulbs at the Annual Show

I've some cracking garlic bulbs to enter for our show this weekend - I'm going to enter them as part of Class 1 (collection).

I don't know how to 'dress' it though - I've looked I've looked online and can't find if it should have the roots trimmed or not, and if I should tie the tops, and if so, how long should the tops be?

The show schedule doesn't give me any clues, as we don't have a separate garlic bulb class (I've checked that I can enter it in the collection class though), so does anyone know how it should be presented?

Hazel, I was told by a long established member of our garden society, that you aren't supposed to tie the top of your garlics. I had presented mine a bit like an onion, with the short top folded down and tied with raffia. His were just trimmed to about 4" long and left upright.

I did just tidy the roots on mine and displayed them in individual cardboard rings.

I'll wash the roots through tonight - they are about 3-4" long & all straggly at the mo - than I can see how much tidying they need. Maybe trim to 2"?

That sounds about right, and then make your cardboard ring just a bit taller so they 'sit' nicely. Good luck with them !!

Hi .. Im looking at showing my first ever crop of garlic at our local show at the end of the month and will use this advice .. just one other question .. should i pick the garlic just before the show or should i do it now and let it dry some before showing ...
