New overgrown allotment

Fantastic views you have from your plot. Every time I stood up I would be distracted by the view! You have done so much already. I liked the photo of your OH (?) with his head against the fence!

I have just taken on another half plot next to mine, went up there today,covered in weeds and couch grass,we pulled the weeds that came out easily, strimmed the others and have covered the rest with plastic sheeting.
You can buy large sheets of black plastic from Wickes or a builders merchants which is cheaper than getting it from a garden centre. Good luck with your plot.

Yeah, I think you're right haza, you need some gaps for the wind to get through. Even if you used concrete posts, those solid panels would take a battering I think. The pallet sections will probably be ok though, and should slow down the wind a bit

The fence is back up and better than ever. It has supports on the other side(the other plot holder didnt mind as they are getting a free fence) and the top part which had mesh is now has a fence attached to the shed(pics to come). All done thanks to the help of our friends Margaret and Brian. Now the plot is tidied and covered for the winter. Don't think I will be spending too much more time there till spring. One bad piece of news was our shed was broken into along with around 12 others on the allotment. Some chickens where burned and sheds damaged. I had a wind up radio stolen. Not to worry though. I will not be detured.

You get a lot of turbulence with a solid fence: not good for plants. I am trying to get Himself to replace our solid panels with a hit-and-miss or trellis type panel: something that filters the wind to reduce its speed and damaging effects.

A lot of people wouldn't have touched that plot with a bargepole, but I guess your like me and and you are enjoying the challenge. My lottie was pretty bad, but its a cake walk compared to yours. All I can say is well done so far and keep the faith.

Ok, got sick of getting broke into every week and got an invite for a plot on a site that has zero bother. The site was already farther on than ours so we gave this site up and moved. Dont regret a thing.

7 weeks on and it looking like an allotment!!!!! Has been for a few weeks to be fair but I only just noticed the difference.







Another person got the plot next to ours on the same day and look at it now!!!

I got my allotment end of May, strimmed everything and soaked in Roundup. waiting for the ground to be rotovated,meanwhile some weeds reappearing. I saw a weed killer for brambles and tree trunks in Wilkinsons yesterday at £12.00. I bought a 100m weed suppresssing black fabric for less than £40.00 of E bay. desperate to get on with job but there has been no rain and clay soil has big cracks so cannot be turned over.
