  • Getting a WHOLE one!

I've just been told that I can take on a full allotment if I wish (IF I WISH!) Sadly this is because of the death of one of the old chaps earlier in the year. One end is somewhat shaded by a large tree in the field outside the site but the other end has summer rasps, autumn rasps, tayberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries! So the non-fruit end is as big as the bit I've already got. No extra veg space but a mass of fruit I otherwise haven't room for. The bit I have will go to the friend who is sharing with me at the moment so we'll a a full plot each.

    I'm a bit excited!

That sounds wonderful Flum, I'm sure the chap who passed away will be thrilled to hear that his plot will go to someone who will look after it, as I know you will. And weren't you saying just the other day that you want more soft fruit in your plot - result I'd say

Brilliant for you - sorry to hear about the incumbant - you could use some of the first year's fruit for wine to drink a toast to him!

Can't wait to see a few pics...

Actually Hazel, I used to make LOADS of wine - a brewing per week at one time. Haven't made any for a couple of years. Today I said to Himself as we were picking sloes for jelly and gin, "I quite fancy making wine again!"

Only a bit? Am disappointed in you

Pity about the circumstances but just think of him every time you bake with the fruit you harvest. And if you make any wines, raise a toast to him!

Congrats and many happy hours spent there to you!

That's great news Flum, although a sad reason for being offered it. I got what I still call Man-Next-Door-Plot after the plot-holder died. He was 82 and had been on that plot for about 30 years! You can't help but feel the, um, responsibility? continuity? I don't think that's the word I want, but it's very different from taking on an abandoned/retired from plot.
I like it anyway, I mumble under my breath to him when I'm trying to decide what to do next. And I'm sure I'll be spending half the winter apologising to him because I'm going to split up some of his big beds...
