That sounds wonderful Flum, I'm sure the chap who passed away will be thrilled to hear that his plot will go to someone who will look after it,..............
No he won't................he's dead!

Yep -off to sow more greens - got chookies to feed now!
I started growing kales for the chooks then realised what I was missing and now I grow them mostly for me.................!

Thanks all. I had the official go-ahead to take over today so I went this afternoon - just for a few minutes - we were expecting a visitor - and I have to say, I'm really pleased. We're out tomorrow too but I might get a chance late afternoon to go and have a bit of a weeding session and get those tayberries tied up.
Actually Hazel, I used to make LOADS of wine - a brewing per week at one time. Haven't made any for a couple of years. Today I said to Himself as we were picking sloes for jelly and gin, "I quite fancy making wine again!"
Purely sloe jelly is really VERY astringent. However, if you use an apple jelly recipe and add half a pound or so of sloes it makes a lovely deep red jelly which is fabulous with meat or cheese but would also pass as a jam. I foil it in the jam stakes by adding herbs at the boiling stage - sage is good, or maybe rosemary. They all get strained out anyway but leave a lingering flavour.
Here it is! Photo taken from the business end - compost bin plus my Dalek. 2 beds edged with wood - not raised but useful. One is full of strawbs so that will help with netting them. Large area for growing veg - Big permanent bean frame, a smaller area that's had a couple of lots of short peas on frames. Then the fruit. Tayberries (now pruned, tied in and tamed) blackcurrants, summer and autumn rasps.
