  • Top soil - safe to use?

    Hi All

I am in the process of sorting out a raised vegetable bed as the whole garden is on a dip. My question is where do people get their top soil from for growing veg in? I had a look online and I found a company called Rolawn who do a veg top soil and say it is free from contaminates. Or would B&Q's own be ok? It says it is sterlised but doesnt say anymore inform...

I've used B&Q topsoil before, and their Peat Free Soil Improver and been very pleased with it. If they've got an offer on, it can be the cheapest way to go.

I'm having a delivery of spent mushroom compost from Bilting Mushrooms (near Canterbury), 3 cubic metres for £75, they also do bark chipping too. http://www.mushroom-compost.co.uk/mushroom_compost.htm

Or Wyecycle (based in the village of Wye) do excellent compost for very little. They can't deliver very far as they only have a tractor, but you can collect from them. http://www.wyecycle.co.uk/compost.htm
