Get your haute couture scarecrows from Lesley and be assured of a stylish, well dressed, cutting edge corvine repellent, with poise, balance and a damm good thrashing with a pea stick.

Thanks for the pic Vicki. Made me laugh. Definately going to make a scarecrow. I'm sure your children enjoyed it.
Looking forward to hearing what competitions are coming up.
Already in the Big Jim competition and Piglets Banana shallot competition - so where does it all go from here

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

What ever do you mean LJ?
I thought I was being quite restrained and complimentary.

DDL. To make our scarecrow we began by placing the two wooden poles in a cross shape. We then nailed them together and then used twine to tie and wrap around the join.
Then we put the shirt on the poles. putting the arms on the horizontal poles and buttoning it up. We tied the shirt at the base and at the wrists tightly. The children then stuffed the shirt. We stuffed some gloves and tied them onto the ends of the horizontal poles. We had bought him a jacket and this was placed on.
To make the head we made a bag with material. Then we stuffed it. We used fabric paints to do his face (so he has a rather funny face!) This was then attached over the top pole and tied on. We topped him off with a hat from the charity shop. Used a mop head for his hair (these come in all sorts of colours) Did sew the hat on to prevent the wind blowing it off. Has stood the test of summer and autumn but is looking a bit worse for wear at moment - he will get a face lift in spring. Possibly a girlfriend too.

You carpetbagger Nick, That village is about 5 miles away from me, you live in banjo country not Leicestershire. That wasnt a scarecrow picture Nick, It was a real person from East Leake. Its the sort of place where your cousin's your aunt too.

Re: Shooting things. Its not true that if you shoot the b*ggars they don't come back... you may remove one animal but another will move in to take its territory.
I've just heard the same thing about snails; that if you remove the adults, the juveniles will then grow quicker to take their place, and breed, and breed....anyone know if that's true?
On our Lotties, we have some trigger-happy old boys who take pot-shots at anything that moves, including CD-scarers and birds in people's gardens - they're a bl**dy menace. We are near houses & schools, I don't think shooting should be allowed on allotments. Use netting or something to keep the birds off - like my old dad said, if you can't outwit a pigeon, you're in trouble.
