          How does it go now?
Committees make decisions that none of the members would make as individuals...

          Still, best of luck

Just come back it was the funniest experience of my life. Have you seen the film grow your own, well the chair was exactly like the guy off that.
I disagreed with everything he said, as i tend to have my own views and opinions and he didn't like it, i think me being a girl and considerabley younger than him didn't help.
Boy did he like the sound of his own voice, ex army of about 40 years ago and doesn't think there is any way of doing things other than his own.
Reackon i will stay on it just to give him a run for his money!! Haven't volunteered to do anything, wanted to go on it just so i could stir it up abit.

It sounds like you had quite a bit of fun there Miffy. What did other people you talked to think of the chairmans opinions and were they happy to back you when you stood up to him? I say more power to your elbow and I hope you stick it up him good and proper.

Yes they did, the secretary kept winking at me and mouthing thank you.
When i suggested we went to ballot papers on a key issue he was horrified, i think he does things by intimidation normally.
Can't abide bullies. He really has let his bit of office go to his head, think he needs a bit of wake up call cause life on civi street is very different, i.e i have my own opinion and i still have the right to voice it and i am not one of his troops and never will be!!
Power to the people!! Perhaps i should wear a beret with a communist star on next time just to see his face.

It's electorate who vote in the Chairperson at the AGM methinks, so someone must have voted for him!
Theoretically the chairperson should take a minor role at meetings only bringing the meeting to order and using his casting vote if neccessary.
I know we mock committee's..............but without them allotments wouldn't function and as members are unpaid, you should ALL be applauded!

For my sins, i was voted in as the first chairperson of our newly elected society. No big headaches yet but i am sure they will come. Its only for a year until the society is up and running. One word of warning, pick committee members that are willing to turn up for meetings and not just once a year. Some members think that they can run before they can walk wanting to erect fences, toilets and meeting huts over the first weekend, thinking that there is a never ending pot of money. And there is always the few that think its a waste of time having the new society and them being the ones that were crying in the first place to have one. So in some ways its nice being in the position to say in the most politest way, "if you dont like it, go boil your head".

the best thing to sit on for the first few meetings is probably both your hands!

To cut a long story short he sort of got the position by default as there were some issues which can't really go into but needless to say he wasn't voted in at the AGM but this is going to be addressed.
I felt it wasn't run properly as meetings i am used to, i.e governors meetings at school where as you say the chair, chairs the meeting and things to be voted have to be proposed and seconded when a decision has been made. We will see what happens next time! Keep you posted.

Our allotment site doesn't have a committee (thankfully) and we function very well without one.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
