  • Mushrooms

I have only had my allotment about 4 months. It was totally over grown with weeds when I got it. A short while before it was horse paddocks.

I have made great progress in clearing the weeds and getting beds dug.

As you know, we have had a lot of rain recently and after about 5 days of not going down there, I went today.

There are mushrooms (or toadstools?) everywhere. I want to know if they are edible. Does anyone know a good website to identify them? It seems a waste of free food if they can be eaten. There seems to be several varieties.

I should have thought to take a photo of them

There are some very good books you can buy which will help you identify mushrooms correctly but I personally find the web to be very misleading as there is a lot of misinformation which matters rather more in this case than in others. My OH is very into his foraging and has taught me a fair bit but it can be very confusing. Your best bet is to try and get a small number that you can confidently identify and build from there. Post a few picces on here for some pointers if you want but it can be difficult to be sure without seeing them in person.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

There have been threads in the past few weeks relating to fungae along with photos....just search for mushrooms & it should pull out the threads.
