  • New plot - old crops

Now that my half-plot is well and truly under control and easily managed, I thought I'd like a new challenge, so I've taken on a full-size plot on a different site, about 2 miles from home. The new plot was worked earlier this year, with veg planted before the previous tenant left it. He has taken his tools etc from the shed but hasn't touched the plot for what looks like a few months now. When I looked round on Monday there were lots of leeks, swedes, turnips and other things almost hidden by annual weeds. There are still tomatoes on the plants in the greenhouse. I'm going to start to clear the weeds this weekend (weather permitting) but can I pick the veg and use it myself? I got the impression that the secretary doesn't think the last tenant will be back at all.

Anyone else inherited veg in this way?

    Thanks,
    Julie

I would harvest whatever you like as long as you've paid for the plot...........

If anything is said........the Secretary gave you permission didn't he!

And if there are any spuds left in the ground make sure you know next year where they was so you do not plant on the same patch again cutting down on the Eel worm....jacob

I asked about paying the rent and the secretary said it wasn't due until April, and I wouldn't have to pay anything until then.

I was pleased there's still stuff there - helps to know what's been planted where and how well it grew (even when abandoned).

Also there are some sprouts growing - so when I dig those out I'll get clues as to whether there's any club root.
