I have no idea which plot is mine. As with most council type things in this area, they are a bit lacksidaisical and the contracts woman who gave me the key this morning told me she didn't know, only that she could tell me it has been empty since early summer. Gee, thanks for your help! She did say she would get the allotments inspector to call me as he would know.
So, in our excitement.... with the added bonus of sunshine (!), we drove down to have a look. Now, the council website lists only 2 plots on the site. The woman who lives in the end house tells me it used to be 2 and now there are 4 plots. Confused? So am I?!
From looking at the site, it would seem that the 1 (2) plot(s) on the left are well looked after and there is still plenty of stuff growing. The front part of the plot(s) on the right looks to have been tended too fairly recently and the sweetcorn that was in there 2 weeks ago has been pulled up. The bit further back with the beans frame on looks more overgrown, but possiblty not enough to suggest it has been emty since early summer. Then, there is a bit further back, covered in black plastic and grass, weeds and brambles. I have a sinking feeling this is possibly my plot - which looks like it has been empty for longer than a few months.
So, I could either have this:
\
or this:
I can see a long, wet, cold winter of clearing & digging ahead of me. Good thing I am not afraid of a bit of hard graft, but I admit to feeling a bit daunted. I shall follow the advice of the Grapes and just do 1 little section at a time, I want a nice bit clear to get my over winter garlic & peas in.
