Alternative method of winter digging!

fingers crossed the picture loads ok. I have not got the skills so the eldest daughter has done it for me!
Just returned from the lottie and thought that you all might appreciate a laugh on this wet and windy night! there is a surface water runoff dyke that runs between our allotments and the building site next door. The builders are redirecting this to improve drainage by putting a bit of a leg in it and joining the river at the bottom of our site. The site floods at the bottom end and so is not used and is very overgrown with brambles etc. - how does the old saying go "when in a hole stop digging!"

They say that they need to bring another digger in to get this one out - tomorrow at 11, so we will be selling ringside seats from 9 lol. should be a good show!

Dyke side seats are £2, on top of the dyke are £3 (but the view there is brill!) Bring a picnic as we don't know when they are really going to start but it's sure to be fun. Oh and you'll needs at least wellies as it was already flooding when I left at dusk.

Just have to ask - did they park it on what they thought was good ground and it went soft overnight or did they actually manage to 'dig a hole for themselves'?

The story goes like this.
At 08:30 this morning I was down the lottie encouraging the builders to give me the fence they were taking down (good for a shed). After they had dropped the fence for us we had a wander across the overgrown area at the bottom avoiding the STANDING WATER as I didn't have wellies on only boots. Around lunch time they started dumping soil down their side of the ditch to make a 'roadway / crossing' to get the digger across to our side and divert the ditch and build us a berm to stop our allotments flooding (remember the standing water - plain for all to see). The JCB, see above, compacted the wet soil and drove down the slope and stopped to dig / move some soil. On he moved repeating this process, digging and building our berm. At this point you should note that at no point was any effort made to raise the level of the ground upon which he was moving. The point at which it all came undone was when he couldn't get back up the slope. After a few backwards and forwards moves he tried to dig himself out across the allotments. At this point the hole he dug filled up, remember the water. The hole was at this point below the level of the river. The rest is history.

I would just like to take uppance at the sarcastic tone of this thread as I got a heck of a shock when the horizren disappeared from sight!!!

I am on a YTS scheme and nobody showed me how to drive the damm thing!!

It's alright for you lot laughing at my down fall, but I am here in hospital having mud pumped from my lungs and all orifices and with suspected trench foot!

You'll not get me back in that flaming thing again and wait til they dig it out and find ny supervisor underneath!! I'll be up for manslaughter! Once I get the mud out of my ears I am going to get my passport photo and leave the country!
I'm going to get a job in the Gobi dessert miles away from all the derision!!

Brookfield Growers: I was disappointed not to see it on tv tonight. Why didn't this make East Midlands News? Is it something to do with the fact that there's never much about Derbyshire? Surely someone took a video with their phone? (maybe tomorrow?) More to the point, Who are the builders?

Seats are going well, looks like we may be sold out. We have tried to get the local news team here but they seem to think that they have dedicated enough time to Derbyshire this weekend, what with prisoners absconding from open prisons and all. That ground sets like concrete come june and plans are being drawn up for an adventure playground to keep the kids happy while we garden! we reckon a swing under the jib, a slide down the jib and a zip wire to the river should do it. After all its every little boys dream to drive a JCB.
