    Hi,
Got an allotment with a mate in October.

Cleared it ( it wasn`t too bad) and got alot of logistics sorted !!!!, found a wasps nest and got stung so that got sorted)

We`ve put twelve 12ft x 6ft beds in we`ve still loads more room too.

Anyway were gonna take 6 beds each ,got a rough idea what i want but would appreciate any advice

    Cheers Tony

Hi Antonio, welcome to the vine.

1 only grow what you like to eat
2 make a list of what you'd like to grow and split into 'families' (legumes, roots, onions)
3 group like minded crops in each bed, and don;t grow the same family in the same bed 2 years running
4 think about permanent crops too

    Above all, have fun!

      Welcome Tony

I'd suggest you put your location in your profile when you get a minute, this helps people to give advice more pertinent to your location.

Spend the next month planning, reading seed catalogues etc - as most of us will be

Welcome to the vine Antonio. From what I believe, some allotments do not allow sharing, check it out. Maybe your mate can come to "help out". If you are leaving the beds 6' wide you may need some more boards to walk on or narrow them to say 3'. Good luck.

Really? I knew 'you' couldn't sublet, but I never knew some wouldn't allow sharing!

Sorry Piskie, I should have done some research first.

Q: Can I share my allotment plot with someone else?

              Answer:
Yes, you can register a partner. This is someone who works with you on your plot as your guest. Your liabilities and rights as the tenant remain unchanged. The partner is not allocated any rights and is the sole responsibility of you as the legal tenant.

If the partnership is genuine and has been in place for 12 months or more, then the partner gains preferential status on the waiting list for your plot.

Partnership forms can be obtained from the allotment office at Municipal Buildings.
