Hey Buddy - second option, no question. And whaddya mean you could always fill it with Crysanths and dahlias - like that wasn't part of your plan at the outset
I am going to grow some flowers for cutting in the tunnel this year, so I may have to force you to check in at least once a week to keep me on the straight and narrow.
Another advantage of option 2 is that it still means you will be able to wander down and have a cuppa with your mate, but wander away when you want to - not so easy when you're sharing a plot.
Hope you and Mrs Grief have a great Christmas.

What sort of flowers are you thinking of SR? I know I'm biased but Chrysanths are good for cutting (do you want some spare stools sending up to the frozen north). Sweet williams are good too, I've ordered a shi ... er shed load of Lilly bulbs well about 30 in 6 varieties if you can get them Alstromerias are great cut flowers too, no scent but will last in water. Pinks and Carnations are good as well but please get the scented ones !!

Honest I didn't think about filling it at first, First thought was Soft fruit, make a bin for compost/manure and put a fence up as it would be roughly south facing so I could grow Espalier/cordon apples & pears. I was seriously thinking of going over to 4ft wide raised beds too (easier for me to maintain)

I'm going to have a walk down and take a look and a measure up and maybe a cuppa
