  • Someone tried to take half my Plot

Had my big fire this morning at dawn. As the sun was out so were plenty of other allotmenteers. The plot next to me has been taken on but nothing has been done to it ie no cultivation. The two tenants turned up this morning and tried to take half my plot as they said I had taken some of theirs. I measured the width which is a standard 8 meters for the plots and I was not encroaching on thier plot at all. I walked off and told them to speak to the site rep. Anyhow Annette is going to come with me and measure it herself, put up the posts and then they other two cannot say I have pinched their bit. I don't want the hassle I just want my plot as it is. In the afternoon went to visit Rusty Lady and her daughter on their plot in South Lowestoft for a Mardle. I was impressed with their Curly Kale but as her daughter showed me it was full of Whitefly. Also I saw their Purple Sprouts they looked alright so I will grow some of them too this year. They also have a resident Moaner too! Looking forward to the week ahead. Oh my Aquadulce Claudia are coming up.

Goodness, hope this gets sorted out, if the quality of our site map is anything to go by this may have caused the trouble. When I first started I got directed to the wrong allotment, then found I should have been on the next one, got them both now so that turned out OK but the other week, a man from the council was wandering around the allotment with the map and a pile of canes trying to work out what was what, bit worrying as he was pacing around near my plot looking for a non-existant allotment space.
He came back the next day with another council allotment officer and worked it out in the end, the space is two along from me, not half of mine, still my beating heart!

Blimey Benacre.. hope it gets sorted soon. I've been on and on at our two ground stewards since I took my plot on in September to remark my plot edge as my one path is really wonky, and I think I've got a chi#unk of next door's plot because of it. They keep saying that if I just look from the top straight down I'll be able to see the line myself, but the far end is covered in brambles and the top end has the communial water tank on it so I can see either end! Luckily I get on with my neighbour so it's all fine but it's getting annoying.

Even the secretary has noticed it and she was telling them to do it asap when I paid my subs last week, and I've never met her before to mention it to her myself.

Oh, and we realised my shed is taking a chunk of my other neighbour's plot too. So that had to come down today rather than be repaired as it stood. Ho hum

We had a potentially similar problem -site map was rubbish, and no boundaries. Fortunately our new neighbour was ok and we sorted it out. Not good though. Would have been better if fences put up.

I mentioned about fences before I joined and was told they weren't really 'allowed'. That and Im not allowed to put down black plastic to smother the weeds. A bit of a pain in the rear really

I put a line up the other day to mark out my path, the rain stopped me completing the edge and when I went back today I found my neighbour had moved the line by about 8inches back onto my plot. The anoying thing is that he can't even look after what he has alraedy without poaching any of mine.

The line went back with longer pegs to keep it in place.

Sadly Shortie you are paying the price for the folk who put down black plastic and never take it up. See if you are allowed anything in lieu such as carpet, then argue from there.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

We're not allowed fences! In between each plot is a narrow path, about 18" to 2', depending on how enthusiastic plot holders are at cultivating right to the edges. You have to keep your bit of grass mown/strimmed too.

However, it is a tiny allotment - there's a central drive with a line of plots running up each side of it. Most plots have also been split into halves, and are numbered 1A to 19B. Last count there were 28 of us on there. So we tend to be able to sort stuff out quite amicably. The only real problem we have is with the council making up rules - the three people who do it don't have a plot and two of them don't even live in the village!

I never realised there were so many rules and regulations for lotties! My boundary has a fence (belonging to my neighbour) on one side but a piece of blue rope put up by the Chair on the other, to divide the original full lottie in two - and Ive got the right hand side.
Very happy with this. Other lottie owners have fences (of different kinds) so am working on this.
Hopefully when I've got my half lottie in order I may have the opportunity to have the other half.
Just going to wait and see!
Hope everyones problems get sorted out - soon! DDL

                          Now I feel really lucky.
All plots are marked out with grass paths in between so there is never any argument. Even the half plots are divided in the same way.

The fence line went up aided by the site rep and our little Committee of workers.
I had taken less than 2' of their plot.
Glad it is sorted as this sort of thing keeps me awake at night.
