  • Cold Frame advice

    Hi All

Hope you are well and not too wet

Anyway, just been into Wilkinson and they have a cold frame for about £7, havent got any in stock as gardening stuff is coming in slow - My question is, what would I use it for?

what do you use your for? Dont know much about them.

    Thanks

I have a biggish one and its mainly used to harden off plants that are coming out of the greenhouse into the open. They go into the coldframe and can be shut in over night or if too cold allowing the plants to toughen up slowly without too much of a shock.

After that I use it to protect cuttings etc.

Same as Piglet, plus early on plot seedbed and great flyproof carrot box, managed more out of the frame than a 20' row.

If it is wooden make a sacrificial matching frame to go on the soil out of treated 2"x1" timber. It rots, the frame does not.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

            Hi Lozza,

Despite what you might think, I need mine as I run out of room in my two greenhouses so the cold frames take the overflow. As to frames for carrots try this, ot is a copy of one used by someone who grows for showing but it is designed to keep the dreaded fly off them.

Here is the plans for the temperary cold frames that use.

Hi Nick like your designs can you tell me what you use for the carrot frame.
              IE the wood or poles.
The force is strong in this one!

Not my design that one (I copied it of someone else ) O guess you could use some tilers lath from a builders merchant or local woodyard. 1" x 1.5" should be OK
