Thanks again for all the sensible advice.

From what I gather, not all plots are created equal and I think other things will influence my decision as discussed earlier.

Can't wait to get down there and see what they're like - and I hope I'm not over-awed by the size of the plots!

Once I've picked one I'll post some pics if anyone's interested!

    Cheers,
    Matt

Good luck with the plot matjam, and if I was you I'd take on the larger plot. Two Sheds is absolutly right. Some veg requires more room than others, and its surprising how quickly you can run out of space! Don't be put off by the idea of cultivating everything at once though. Cover unused ground with old cardboard etc. to help tackle new and or existing weeds. Be prepared for an overgrown site too, for these are all too common, and are often rejected as 'requiring too much work'.
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.

        Hi Matt

12 Months ago i put my name down on our local lottie list and i was 32nd in line just been in touch with them and there is now only 12 in front of me so hopefully next year i may get the nod.

What i noticed on our local plots is of the 42 plots available about 6 or 7 of them flood in winter due to the local mere at the bottom
The lottie holders of these dont plant anything that has to overwinter due to the flooding... One plot holder has had their plot for 4 years and out of the four they have flooded 3 times so it may be worth checking if any of the plots flood

Good look and all the best
Keep the posts coming and welcome to the vine you know you chose the right forum... Best on the WEB

            Half plot in the end

Thanks for all the good wishes and advice. In the end it was pretty much half-plots that were on offer so I chose the biggest one that l thought didn't need a huge amount of work.

Well, after what seemed like an age, I've finally got a key and went again this morning to take a few pics.

            half_plot.JPG (image)

Most of the growth is quite new so hopefully won't prove too much of a problem. I noticed this morning that there are a few brambles which will need pulling out. They're quite immature so should not be too embedded.

Will get up there this weekend to get things started!

            Cheers,
            Matt

Matt, your photo is taking an age to load, so I gave up, but it looks do-able.

You've got a lot of grasses there, and a few docks, so get the new weeds up as you go. Don't be disheartened when more appear, it's only to be expected.

It looks a nice level site, not too bad. Enjoy
