  • North South beds?

Trying to plan out my new plot. It is south facing, and 9.2 m x 13 m (long side running north-south) with a slight slope down to the south.

From reading some of the other threads I gather I should be setting up the garden beds running north to south, which would mean that the rows of plantings would actually be west to east, is that right?

Also, I guess the taller plants should be northwards so as not to cast shadows on my other plants, eg legumes, the taller beans and peas on the northern end of the row (but not so far north to avoid shading my rear neighbour's plot!!) and the shorter ones on the southern end?

Rows should run N-S. so they get sun on both sides. Divide the plot into four beds...makes rotation etc easier too. Put runner beans at north end.

PS some leafy stuff like lettuce and parsley enjoy a bit of shade in summer so you can fit those around peas etc.
