I've just "made" 2 compost bins in about as many minutes for free - I got the idea from a fellow allotmenteer. My hubby works for a gas company and he brought home some of the pipe packaging (he did ask first!) - it's hard to describe without a pic but I'll give it a go - imagine a large (2' by 4') version of the paper that binds £notes but made of wood with metal hinges joining each side so it folds flat. They're considered rubbish in the yard and are burnt so they were glad to be rid of them. But they make great bins, just stack one on top of another and add more as needed. The water board use them as well so if you know anyone in the trade.......or have a depot near you.......

On plot one we're fortunate to have a big reinforced grey plastic compost bin, about 4' by 3', with a lid! We inherrited it when we took over the plot, and although it is full it curently has a lot of bindweed growing through it, so one of the jobs we've still to do is empty it, seiving the compost as we use it! We also have a double pallet type composter at the fron of the plot, which is where our FYM will be going, ready to rot down for next year!

On plot 2 there's 2 pallet type composters, which are falling apart as they are rotten, so we are going to re-orientate them and rebuild with some new pallets, then use the area that they were previously located for a nice big crop of pumpkins and squashes!

At home we've also one of the dalek style bins, which is used for all the kitchen waste, the compost from which will be used on the veg beds at home!
