What is this insect i keep digging up?

Wow, so many replies, many that made me laugh out loud! Thank you all so much.
I'm pretty sure that they didn't have those front leg things... so I'm still thinking vine weevil. But they were so fat... fatter than the pictures.
So... I'm going to dig the bed over again for a bit tomorrow to see if I can find another one!!! that way I can be sure before I put my spuds in!!! Will keep you updated!

I've just emptied two containers with vine weevils in them yukkk! When I poked the vine weevils they did curl up into a c shape. Picked them out and left them for the birds but they had damaged the strawberries beyond repair. Your description, to me, sounds like vine weevils but whatever they are, hope you get rid of them soon!!
