Please can someone tell me why mine goes to seed after only the first picking - last year it was growing in the open and it went to seed immediately it came up. This year I decided to try forcing - manged a really good first picking and now it has produced magnificient seed heads yet again. What am I doing wrong

Last year we had two small plants of rhubarbe, one of them showed a couple of small leaves about three weeks ago, we covered it with a large flower pot with a hole in the top and now we have a couple of sticks to pick - no sign of the other one yet, so think we've lost that one! Sometimes it's to do with the variety. Some go to seed more readily than others. I would think that by forcing it you've weakened it a bit though. Feed it up this year and see how it goes.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
