Please can someone tell me why mine goes to seed after only the first picking - last year it was growing in the open and it went to seed immediately it came up. This year I decided to try forcing - manged a really good first picking and now it has produced magnificient seed heads yet again. What am I doing wrong

Last year we had two small plants of rhubarbe, one of them showed a couple of small leaves about three weeks ago, we covered it with a large flower pot with a hole in the top and now we have a couple of sticks to pick - no sign of the other one yet, so think we've lost that one! Wait and see, you never know they may come up, it's been a cold, long winter!

Cut the seed heads off as soon as they show to save the plant's energy. Hopefully it will then produce more leaves.

Sometimes it's to do with the variety. Some go to seed more readily than others. I would think that by forcing it you've weakened it a bit though. Feed it up this year and see how it goes.
