Our local alottments moved from been managed by the district council to the town council. The town council have decided that the plots have to be self financing and taking into account I have to pay two lots of Council Tax County and Town this grates some what.

They have raised the charges they were previously £18:00 half a plot and £36:00 for a full plot to £23.00 for half a plot and £46.00 for a full plot which will rise to £27.00 and £54.00 in 2011 - 2012.

In the scheme of things I know this is not a huge rise but several of the old timers have made the decision to pack in their plots some have been on the site for over 30 years they are still active and have great plots but just find the heavy handed approach too much and no concessions for OAPs.

I have learnt so much from the old timers on the site and feel quite angry about how the town council have gone about things they have listed the costs of maintaining the site and have included that they pay for hedge cutting, fence mending and the leveling off the drive way.

I am aware that these works were carried out by local volunteers from a homeless project at no cost to them.

There rant over I feel a little better now !!

Our allotment committee are allowed to only take 1/2 the rental fee for disabled or OAP's. The Council make up the shortfall.

    Worth checking up on!

Would these votes still stand under new management or can you propose another vote.

The votes were taken by the Town Council and therefore sadly are now set in stone.

Amazing how selfish some people can be. Even if it wouldn't cost any more for the non-OAP's they'll vote against giving them some slack.

Sounds like it's being handled really badly.

You might want to have a word with the other plot holders and see if you can get the council to reduce their account of the costs for things like hedges and other jobs that can be done by the plotholders. No doubt the costs are over inflated anyway - things done by the government are invariably a very inefficient use of funds.

Costing for things done for free is just not on.

              Good luck with it.
