Turfed the chooks out of the greenhouse. Dug in the chicken poo to the borders ready for toms. Moved the spring cabbage I have overwintered in pots in my other greenhouse into the greenhouse and stood them on the newly turned over soil.
The next day I noticed a few nibbles on a couple of the leaves and wondered what had caused it?
The cabbages have been safe from predation by woodpigeons and all manner of creepy crawlies all winter............till now.
Came in the greenhouse the next day and devastation reigned with ALL 12 of the cabbages being attacked.
One of the guys at the allotments had seen the culprits standing on their hind legs and munching the cabbage...........rats!!!!!!!!!
Moved all the cabbages back out the greenhouse, took off all the nibbled leaves and put down poison. Spotted two rats eating the poison today but also another rat trying to climb up my PSB outside!!!!!!!!!!
You've got to admire their persistance..............but come on.............its bad enough having flying rats (woodpigeons) but to have a ground based unit as well is not on.
Hopefully the poison will put paid to them!
