Garden Centre Alloment Plots

I just read about these in gardening which and thought i'd post some details for those who are on a long waiting list.

Also what do people think??

Some Wyevale garden centres are offering allotment plots to rent so you can grow your own. Prices Start at £5 a week and rise to £10 a week with a shed and greenhouse.

I think from a business point of view its excellent but its also a complete rip off. I pay £8 a year for my plot its 8 poles my site is not excatly the best we have no water, no shop and not much of a road in the winter as it gets really wet.

However they will let me have a shed, greenhouse, chickens and maybe if i asked nicely some bees. I'd be will to pay more but i do think £260 a year is too much.

So what would you be willing to pay to grow your own?

Theres no right or wrong answer i'm just nosey.

At £8 per year your plot is ridiculously cheap, mine is now 3 times that much and still in my opinion a total bargain. However, I prefer to have my DIY, no frills attached plot to one ready prepared by the garden centre even if they were the same price. In all reality, it probably wouldn't be worth the garden centre doing if for anything less than a fiver a week although double that price for a greenhouse / shed seems a big increase as they'll be getting them at trade. Suppose they've just seen a business oportunity and it will suit some people. Don't know how much I'd pay as a max, probably more than I do although I'm used to it now so anything more seems expensive so not really sure what to think

When i was told it was £8 but it might go up i just laughed.

I was banking about around about £50. I even had a year for free as someone else took it on and gave up last year. At the meeting everyone said they'd be willing to pay more so we could get the road sorted out but this year rates remained the same. It went up last year i was told from what i didn't ask.

My site is £13 a year,we have water but no leccie,and a small shop thats open on a sunday.

I think the garedn centre plot idea is a complete rip off,we had a farmer up here that split a field up and wanted to charge £300 and you had to do all your own fencing and everything-----hs field is still empty

What a fantastic idea if you have got plenty of money !

You can drop the kids and the other half off in the cafe while you indulge yourself in your hobby. These places could be an ideal training ground with prepared soil and greenhouse / shed.
I agree the price is a little on the steep side but you are certainly paying for the convenience. Imagine how many sales the garden centre will get from the new allotmenteers.
Very handy if
1 You haven't got a garden
2 Are a complete novice
3 can't get an allotment
4 Are unsure of how to clear an abandoned allotment you have been allocated

I wish I had thought of it and had the capital to implement it first.

(I think I still prefer my own garden plot though )
