Ah, good idea about storing it. I do have a roll that I was going to use for the other garden but I won't be doing this yet as it needs to be stepped down (huge job) so will give it a go with these onion/shallot sets and garlic cloves to see how I get on!

Id not bother with using it on onions n garlic, just cover them with a mesh overwinter, it stops the weed seeds from reaching the soil and keeps it weed free over winter, then its an easy job to hoe them regularly!
Brassicas is where we tend to use it, does a fab job!Blessings

I may have missed it but I dont recalll you adding in the cost of water. Our water bill has gone up so much and although we try to recycle as much as possible it still has to be taken in to account on the outgoing side.Do you add this in?

Hi stella, we use as much collected water as possible, but we are also fortunate that the allotment rent includes the use if standpipes, so there is no extra cost to us for the water on the plot!
Hi Suky, I weigh the produce as we bring it in, and then use the current supermarket prices to get a value, then add that value to the totals on the blog, so any scrap of paper is used for making notes, but the only total I have is the one on the blog that I copy and paste on here! HTH!Blessings

hi what a great idea, I have often wondered how much my allotment has cost / saved me.
Do you use an excel spreadsheet or do you have some fancy software program, any advise greatly appreciated in how to set one up.

I've just made one which I've posted in the Vegging Out forum.

This thread is really interesting, by the way.

Well, seeing as I've got my hands on a plot now - I'm keen to record a balance sheet this year.
Are we going to have another thread - I enjoyed watching this one grow.
quick query though.. I've already got seeds etc - have only bought 1 packet of seeds this year, and some weed fabric. On top of the allotment cost that's all. (Not to mention the huge amount I've spent on the garden - but I'll write that off ).
Would you count last years seed purchases as costs - if i'm going to harvest some of them this year, I'd have thuoght so but interested in what you people think!
