I would have said cardoon or Globe artichoke, from the colour of the leaves..

Globe Artichokes get big, but I always thought it was just the flower stalks which were the more vertically inclined parts of the plant.

I'd plump for the cardoon too, as a globe artichoke that size should be in full production of its flower buds (the artichokes) by now.
