A Mattock from B&Q B&Q Heavy Duty Grub Mattock With H Shaft, 0000003527290
Gosh i wished we had discovered this many moons ago! it would have saved so much time an digging effort and all for the reasonable price of £17! Our plot had not been cultivated for 15 years, the masses of bramble crowns have been a very slow pain stacking slog to dig out with a spade and fork, hands an knees , axes for sapling roots etc, and the dreaded couch grass mats take an age to slice off an then to try an shake out the topsoil held in them. We were determined to do it properly first time bit by bit.
Then one of the old Lottie guys sauntered up to us with an old tool an without more than two words proceeded to clear a decent size area of our Lottie in 20 Min's, that would have taken us days to clear with a spade, fork and Axe! I could not believe my eye's!! This tool takes out huge bramble crowns with no more than a yank, sapling roots are no problem, chop yank! and the dreaded couch grass is just ripped away like a cobweb leaving bare earth that is soooo easy to fork over to get last bits of roots out. I were left open mouthed at how fantastic this basic tool is, and despite the old guys offer of a loan when we need it, we have purchased our own because he is not always there when we are.
I can't recommend this old fashioned tool enough, nor thank our generous old Lottie guy enough for sharing his knowledge. It just goes to show that no matter how modern our knowledge, an how much we think we have learnt, the oldun's can still teach us the most basic of things.
