  • Composting in Rubble Sacks

    Hi
I recently added an extra half plot to my existing plot. I have cleared it weeded it and grown spuds in it this year. All the weeds etc that were growing have been stacked and are composting under black plastic. If i took some of this part composted 'stuff' and filled rubble sacks with it keeping air and moisture out, would it be ok to use next spring. It's been under plastic since March/April this year. Maybe it's a case of try it and see what happens. Have i just answered my own question? Maybe i'll thank myself for being so helpful...

Give it a go, but make holes in the bottom of the sacks for drainage or you could finish up with a nasty wet mess. When it is 'done; I would be inclined to sift it just there are any weed roots that haven't rotted.

You need moisture and air to be IN.

Otherwise you get a stinky slimy mess.

Do it like leafmould: fill your bags with wet "stuff", prick a few air holes and leave for 9-12 months.

Why can't you make a proper compost heap?

How will the worms get in?

We've just cleared a huge area and have made a big pile of all the weeds...including scary thistles and bindweedOnce we've done we'll box it in with some pallets and just leave it for a couple of years.(maybe adding the odd trug of chook poo to keep things moving)
