New Plot problem

Hi all i am new to all this but i have a huge problem. I could use some advice. I finally got the key for my new plot this morning the problem is unlike the other plots on the side which are fenced off with there own gate the plot i have taken over is different. Apparently there were 6 friends who had a plot each and had them fenced as a bunch and they all used each others soil and sheds. The one who had my plot gave it up as it was too much for him. Now when i went to look at the plot on Monday with the man from the council he said i could put a fence up if i apply in writing and that i could keep the shed that was on the plot or have it removed.

Here is were the problems begin. The other fellas have been using the plot for their own use storing old wood and all sorts of junk which they have started to clear today. I went for a nosey as soon as i got the key lol. Only to be told that they all use the shed have all their tools in it but i am welcome to use it any time i want only i dont have any keys to the gate to the actual plot or the shed. My husband said leave it as it is because he doesnt want to step on anyones toes so to speak. It may sound a bit selfish of me but i wanted the plot for myself i have been waiting 13 months for it. I want to fence it off and put my own gate and i want to use the shed for myself i dont want anyone coming in and out of it when i am not there.

Is my husband right should i just let them continue to use the shed or insist on them moving there things out and change all the locks and stick a fence up. The other problem being my boundary runs straight down the centre of their gate and path. At the moment i can get through the council gates with my key but cant get into my plot unless someone else is there. I really dont know what to do i have 3 small children and really want them to be safe on my plot and not have to worry about them running onto anyone elses and having them complain. I could use some advice please.

let council to remove the shed,you wont need one for some time,the others will have to store their stuff elsewhere.Then at a later date re erect va shed if you really need one

Any chance of a picture so that we can see the layout and maybe suggest a few things?

Explain to the other people why you need to erect your fence & tell them they can have the shed so long as it is moved (along with any other of their possesions) prior to the said fence being sited

i will try and get some monday can't go tomorrow because there will be no one there to let me in. I forgot to mention they have also planted some mint plants on my side of the plot and some gooseberries obviously the previous holder had no problems with them using his plot.

sounds to me like they are taking advantage of your plot, maybe not intentionally they are just use to sharing it. they are quite happy using the shed on your plot as it saves them room. as ive been waiting 18months for my allotment i totally understand that you want it to be yours and will have loads of plans for it. its not right that you cant access your plot unless someone else is there.
i think you need to explain to them the situation. they should understand.

I thought i would update people on the plot. Had a lot of problems the man from the council came down to remove the lock so i could have access and the others werent happy with this. I went yesterday to take some measurements for the fence and they were being funny with me. They had started clearing the shed out without me even asking them to and i though at least i didnt have to sort that out. Boy was i wrong. They turned around and told me that the shed was half on my land and half on theres. Their solution was to empty the shed and they want to put a partitioning wall inside the shed to split it in half. What a joke lol. Anyway i though i am getting no where so i got in touch with the man from the council again and asked him to come and mark out my boundries. He wasnt happy with the fact the others were behaving the way they were so he has told me he is going to sort me another allotment out and he is going to make sure these guys dont ever get there hands on the other plot. He said it is all because they had put it to take over that plot and had been turned down so they were making it difficult for me. Hopefully everything will be sorted now if not i am giving up i cant cope with all this hassle. Sorry this is a bit long winded thank you for your advice everyone.
