YEY!!! I have my allotment

I've had my alottment now for 3 weeks - had to wait nearly 3 years to get it. It's only a 5 rod one but it's good to get started. Have managed tp tidy up about 2/3 of the area that was previously cultivated, but now approaching the worst bit that hasn't been touched for years! Hoping to get the whole plot tidied up by the end of the year - will need to clear a huge pile of rubbish, move the shed & re-build the compost bin! Can't wait

Hey Warsash. If I were you, I'd invite your local authority to come pick up their rubbish. It is one of my pet complaints that new plotters should be entitled to take on a clean plot.

Hey Boris,

it's a disgrace that you have been asked to take on such a mess, but, the good thing is that once you get your plot into order, you will have such a sense of satisfaction. Do please continue to take photos as you go along and post them on here. Also preserve the photos so that if you have a bad spell and can't keep on top of your plot for any reason, you should be able too show it is much better than it was when you took it on.

It looks moderately daunting but I suspect that once you get rid of the long grass, nettles etc you will have really nice soil/tilth under there. That was certainly the case with areas of my plot when I took it on. As everyone says - this is absolutely the best time of year - you will get lots done ready for spring and planting! Good luck.

Made a start

We made a start this morning, lovely sunny day and got a big patch started and yes the soil is lovely underneath! Thank goodness. It was threatening to rain, our backs were sore and the kids were fed up so we called it a day but we still feel like we did a lot of work. Met some fellow allotmenteers too which was nice. Back again next weekend.
