  • Day Off Tomorrow

    Hi

I have a day off tomorrow to go and dig me lotty, hoping to spend most of Friday and Saurday there to get it all cleared for the start of the season.

The lotty is covered in grass, some which is quite long and water is just sitting on the top. The grass has formed a kind of carpet with all its roots.

I wanted to attached a photo for you all to see but it says it is too big when I try to upload it

Cor will 2 days be enough?? Sure would probably be a lot easier if you could get a turf cutter just to remove the top thatch, one problem i see you having if you dont turn the turf deep enough is grass springing up from upturned clods all over the place. This happened to a friend of mine and made her twice as much work than if shed got rid of the turf.

Just a thought let us all know how you get on.

    Good luck.

      Good idea.
You could then use the turf for paths when you have finnished digging the lottie
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

Or you could pile your turf up grass to grass and leave to make loam??

Thanks LJ. Have tried this but still seem to big.

Most of the long grass has been pulled to a managable size for digging.

Once the plot is clear of the grass, we will leave it for a while before giving it another dig/clearing.

            Hi

Plot all cleared will be dug/raked again before planting but it now looks like a lotty instead of a meadow.

Hope everyone else has had a good lotty day.
