Price of Allotment ?

I'll be paying £10 a month for a 30' x 16' plot. Trouble is on Guernsey land is at a premium!

The NSALG.org.uk website shows that the average rent for a full sized plot in England and Wales is £25 - £35 per annum and a full sized plot being 3oo squ yds

Mine is £10 for 1/2 a plot. I have no idea how many rods it is. I think it works out at about 30 ft square 'ish. We have water on site, and secure storage for tools in communal sheds, but nothing else.

we charge £50 per 5 pole plot and £125 deposit (£75 refundable) but we are a new site in a parish just outside Grange Park nr J15 M1 Northampton.

We have fixed the price for 3 years then it increases by 2% per annum , this includes Water.
Facilities inc Site Shop,
Lawnmower, Strimmer free hire
2 Play Areas for the under 12's
Large Car Park + Smaller Car Park
Vehicle access to one end of each Plot
Toilet (Self Composting)
Water Trough's every 4 Plots
Mushroom Compost (Free)
Manure (Free)
Secure Wooden Fencing

More importantly we have a forward thinking Parish Council who do not want any monies from what we collect so everything is ploughed straight back into the assoc/Field .

That said, you do have some great amenities, a very modern site

I am one of the lucky ones as I only pay £10 for a full plot. I think each individual has to ask themselves if the cost of a plot is worth it. But to put a little perspective on it I was paying £350 a year for a very small piece of ground just to park my caravan on. Admittedly it was secure but then a lot of lotties are as well.

If you think you're being robbed you should count your blessings Just felt I should enlighten you to the costs of allotment ownership in Grimsby .... my invoice has just come in for .... you'll never guess ..... £92.13 (full size plot including water)....... don't you all feel much better now!!!!!!!

£21 for a full plot. We have toilet facilities on site as well as water and a car park. Also a little shop which sells compost etc. I'm shocked at the price of some lotties around the country!

I am officially jealous. We pay £67 for a full plot - next year this will rise to £200, unless you live just outside the council's border in which case you'll have to pay £400 a year.
Although the council have agreed to a "consultation" so perhaps we might only be paying £199.99.

i just got my first plot and i thought it was a good price at £30 all inc the plot is 125 sq meters (30x45) although some are bigger in places.
old people get it half price i think, you have to be retirement age tho.
i thought it was big but some people on the site say this is a half size compared to other allotments.

we have a no hose allowed policy but there are taps every 2/3 plots and im right by one so thats fine.

we have a small shop thing thats opened on sundays 10:30 to 12 only and thats when you can see the site manager etc also.

you can take your car in to so thats good it was the first one i saw and loved the people and the site was clean and no sheds etc which makes it look neat and stops breakins!

got it quite fast to put my name on the list in oct last year and got my plot on jan 1st!

I got my allotment on 23rd Dec and have to pay £13 till April but the Parish Council web site says its £13.50 for a year so will have to see what happens then.
We have no services apart from water on the site as new but have noticed the end of field hasn't been put to allotments so wondering what they may have planned for it in the future

mine is in wilitshire 200sq metres (8 rods) i pay £20 a year. 11 plots 1 water main. town council cut the main track.

Mine is £140.00 a year for 10m by 10m plot on a garden centre site, which is high compared with most sites, but I chose to pay for this rather than wait for ever for the council to get its act together (and there are no other allotments on offer around here). It is a nice, secure site as the centre gets locked up at night; it's very handy having the garden centre right there, and the site provides shed, plenty of water stands and maintenance. I say relax and enjoy your site - you pay more than some and less than others but we are all lucky given the thousands of people on waiting lists for years. The value for mental and physical health as well as good organic food seems well worth it to me.

We pay £22 a year for a plot in South Oxfordshire (Didcot) that's about 10x15 metres. My plot is on the border of the site, so I suspect it's a little larger as it's easy to "accidentally" extend the boundaries a bit with the way things are laid out. Our annual rent is due in April but is locked at £22 for 2011/2012 and locked at £23 for the following year.

We don't really have amenities. There are locked gates (but it's surrounded by forest and a fence that people can slip through easily) and three water troughs, plus a dirt patch area for parking. My plot is about as far away from the water as you can get, but at least we get water included in the rent. Someone from the council comes by every few weeks to mow around the boundary when needed, but we're responsible for taking care of the paths between the plots themselves.

The whole site is surrounded by brambles, plum trees, and raspberries which is a nice addition to the crops we grow! :-D
