I am paper planning my plot that I got last year, manured about 60% and got a permanant bed + planning for 3 year rotation of crops, but do I plant my rows in a east /west direction or north /south direction. Plot runs North /South , or does it not matter. Thanks

I tend to grow north/south if poss - because you get sun both sides at some time of the day. In practice, you have to do what fits your plot!
Good luck - you'll have fun!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

As already said, make sure that taller stuff is at the northern end so that it doesn't shade the other stuff.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I tend to bung things in where there's space, but always with the tall plants (sweetcorn, French beans etc) at the north end - so they cast shade on my neighbour's crops, not mineAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

I used to plant in long rows across the plot which meant east west rows. I found that things like climbing beans gave a better crop on the south side and also shaded anything to the north of the row. I have since created 6ft wide raised beds east to west and now grow in rows across the bed so that the rows are north south and find that I can plant anything anywhere without casting to much shadow on anything.
