Can I plant parsnips in ground that was manured last October and has not yet had any crops.

Hey! First Parsnip thread of the new Year, I think! (Sorry, MG, but we do seem to get more parsnip questions than for any other crop!)

I'd be inclined not to sow them in a bed manured in the autumn - it's asking for them to fork, I think. Have you got a different bed that you can put them in, and maybe use this one for potatoes instead?

Yes they'll probably fork, but then mine do that anyway - monstrous looking things some of em *shudders*

Thanks, thought that be the answer but best to ask , only area I will have is the area reserved for peas /beans etc. Messes up my crop rotation, but then what are plans for but to be messed up

Eh? Brassicas are cabbage like stuff- caulies, sprouts and turnips/swede- or have I misunderstood you? Technically, I don't think you're supposed to manure ground before brassicas; I did, though in my first year as i didn't know and it didn't seem to bother them.

It's only roots like parsnips , carrots etc that don't like manure..........
