Weedkiller

I am secretary of an allotment association and we are intending on amending our rules to include some restrictions on the use of weedkiller.

Could any members of allotment associations let me know if they have anything in their rules about use or otherwise of weedkiller.

IS it allowed? Totally banned, any forms of restriction/ methodology to follow.

Exact wording in the rules would be excellent

Any information will be gratefully received.

The reason we want to add a rule is because we had an incident this season.

One plot holder used weed killer that spread on to a neighbouring plot. The Committee want to limit usage but we are finding it difficult to be prescriptive.

You either allow weedkiller or don't allow the use of weedkiller, anything in between is difficult to specify and probably even harder to monitor.

Can't help with wording but I do know that responsible use of Weedkiller includes spraying only on very still days. Can you insist on this and enforce?

Probably contentious, but I would say there's no place for weedkiller on allotments!

Anyone using weedkiller needs to be able to use at least a modicum of common sense and unfortunately you cannot legislate for stupidity or for nutters because stupid people and nutters will disregard the rules anyway.

I personally don't agree with Snadge. Weedkillers are a useful tool if used properly and responsibly.

And there's the rub. We had someone on our site who was struggling to keep up and used a weedkiller over all their own plot. OK, their choice. However, their watering can dribbled all the way to and from the water tank! Lord knows if they spilled any in there!

I certainly had the edge of my plot dribbled on - I hate brown patches!
