  • Bark under - Apple / pear trees

I am thinking of putting bark chipping under my apple and pear trees to save me having to weed. If this a good idea or not?

I will also be putting a weed membrane down first.

    Thanks

Only problem I can forsee would be the introduction of honey fungus. Unsure of its morphology or how its transmitted though, but just a thought.

I've used chipped up pallets as mulch around my apples for a few years now, the sort they use for horse showrings I think. It doesn't rot down to quick and the trees seem fine.
