Brassicas

I have just lifted the remains of last year's brassicas, can anyone tell me are they safe to put on the compost, or is it unwise due to desease spread. The plant were healthy but I know some plants shouldn't go on the heap and I'm not sure if these are one of them. I know the thick woody stems are not going to rot down but the leafy tops and the blown sprouts should.

Yes it will be o/k.to compost disease free plants.

Bash the stems with something heavy, I use club hammer or chop them with the spade just to start the breaking down process. Some are tougher than others but they do rot down in time.

It's fine. As the others have said, smash the stems up a bit to make them rot quicker, or stuff them behind my shed where I put mine (out of sight ...)

Mine go through a chook first..............

Pulled some sprouts up today and had quite a bit of difficulty getting them out of the ground. Thought I would have to resort to a garden fork, but I managed eventually!
