  • Self Managed Allotments

There's a proposal for our allotments down in Worthing to become self managed. Currently they're managed by the council (or their appointed contractor) who collect the rent, allocate plots, deal with maintenance and the like.

I was wondering what peoples experiences are of self management. Do you feel you get more through self management? Does it work better for smaller sites (the one I'm on is about 400 plots)? Any input welcome.

    Thanks

We have been self managed for years....we are a large site and it seems to work fine for us. We just pay a basic rent to the council and then sort everything out ourselves through committee and site meetings.

In fact I don't think the rent goes straight to the council , there is a coventry gardens council who we oay the rent too so we are not at the mercy af a money grabbing council

we're self managed we pay a third of the rent (set by Council) to the council and the balance we keep for site maintenance. It can be daunting at times if something goes wrong we have to sort it/pay it - we have a comittee and it works fine most of the time, we've only got 60 odd plotholders though.

Have a look at the NSLAG site theres some useful info on there
