Beginning to wonder...........

Is it worth sowing spring cabbage when my Hispi cabbage sown early in the year are maturing before my autumn sown spring cabbage.

I will probably still try it this year in case it was a fluke........but if the same happens next year I'll just use the spring cabbage as 'spring greens' and pick em all before they heart up!

I love Hispi. Cut one yesterday and having some of it for dinner tonight. Even grandson loves it.

I tend to agrre snadger,
I have given up on growing spring cabbages as they are too long in the soil. I find quick growing greyhound the best early cabbage.. i sow on the widowsill, then prick out into plant pots and gradually harden off in the warm then cold greenhouse and wait until the spring weather is ideal for planting out.. a bell made from a pop bottle popped over the plant for a week or two helps speed things along. last year, cheap hispy seeds were far better the some F1 hispy that cost an arm and leg.

Been a funny old season, really warm in April but since then, some really cold nights which has virtually stunted the growth of a lot of veg. Maybe not the best season to make a judgement call. I do agree that greyhound takes a lot of beating as a quick growing early cabbage.
