  • I just need to share with you....

after nearlly 5 years of having an allotment I have finally managed to dig over all the beds on the plot and they all have some veg growing in them all!!! woohooo

Me and hubby took last week off and spent a whole week down the plot, digging - this included an area that had been covered since we had it so it was hard work but we got there!!! and taking all the rubbish to the tip and the plot looks amazing - not the best on the allotment site but it looks so much better.

This is the first year I feel I am getting somewhere with the plot and we are getting good results from the veg on the plot.

little and often is the recipe I use but I appreciate it is difficult balancing having an allotment with having young children. Now you need to keep it clean so you can get a flying start next year .

yep planning my overwinter veg now and selecting beds to grow green manure. One half of the plot has nice small beds which I am finding has helped me loads, going down the plot before I start work and spedning 30 mins weeding and leaving knowing I had weeding one bed really helped my process. The other half needs work on path ways and setting out more small beds but that will be done by the end of the year.

My little boy, who is now 3 is now interested a little bit more now, he helped me sow some carrots the other day, used a whole packet of seeds but hey! he loves going to the area I have carrots growing and eating them straight from the ground.

This is the first year I think I have 100% enjoyed having an allotment.

I've had my 4 yo nephew on mine this week: I give him a bendy bucket full of water & a kid's watering can, that keeps him quiet for an hour at least (take spare clothes though). Then I upturned a dalek and let him rake through it looking for minibeasts, then he went through the picnic hamper I'd packed up ~ he apparently needs to feed every 20 mins or so.

Then he needs to wee every half hour ~ he's loving peeing on the compost heap, I just hope he realises he can't wee just anywhere in public.

Finally, he loves loves loves podding peas & shelly beans

Rome wasn't built in a day JB!

I have two allotments and I am struggling to find the time with my new project house one year in to a 2 year proposed rebuild.
Finally got every spare bit of land planted this week.I have plants put aside to fill vacant spots straight away.
I was thinking I would have to give up one of my plots next year...............but now I'm not so sure! (Anyone want to buy a half finished house?)

Thanks everyone, just need to keep it up and keep my beds in order!!

Atleast I am now given the old chaps who spend every waking hour down the plot a run for there money.

JB, I worked out my beds where to big and just to much to handle, I just cut them in half and it worked a treat. If I only had 30mins down the plot it would give me the time to weed a bed - left feeling happy that one bed was weeded and looking great. Done this for the last few weeks and it has really helped me progress, gain loads of convience and my plot looks tidy.
