Before I carry on is this ok to do??

Right as the war on weeds continued this year, I have now raised bed'd most areas of the allotment, and I am now starting to lay down weed supressor and use hedge prunings and small branches chopped up by my garden shredder as a path maker.

Is there anything wrong with this before I go full shred ahead?? Also can this be used around fruit trees/bushes?? Or plants?

nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't bother putting round fruit trees or bushes, because i'll be chucking compost around mine. But that doesn't mean it's wrong.

The bark/shrub prunings will of course rot down after a year or two. The trouble with putting shreddings around plants is that as it rots it takes nitrogen out of the soil ~ away from the plants. Best to use bark on the paths and well-rotted compost on the plants.

Ahh, thought I had read something about that, I will stick to just paths with it then, it doesn't half make the allotment look neater and tiedier.

We've just weed proofed and chipped our allotment paths. We tend to follow open back lorries with chippers on - have done it three times this summer when we've chanced upon seeing one. So if in Derbyshire/Staffordshire and you see a black car with a red faced, slightly embarrassed lady (yes I am) and a couldn't give a toss, brass necked Yorkshire something for nothing guy hijacking a chipper lorry - you know it's me:-)

It does look very nice, before I bought the shredder I did try the local tree surgeons, but health and saftey of something prevented them from keeping the chippings onsite anymore.

Luckily I have plenty of hedges and tree prunings to go at for the foreseeable future.
