  • Edging/raised beds protection

    Hi all....

Am looking at trying to put some old pallet boards down as path edging and possibly as some raised beds. Is there anything that i can use before hand to protect the wood before putting it into the soil without any nasties leaching out into the soil ??? Thanks for any info

Pallet boards are pretty hard anyway and will last quite a long time but you could give them a good soaking in linseed oil before you use them. Organic and no nastys to leach into the soil.

A chap on the alottment covered some pallet boards with black bags but you could use old compost bags, he said he's had 5 years out of them so far.

Its probably not worth the time, effort and expence of doing anything. Pallet wood is generally pretty robust and should last 3 or 4 seasons without any treatment, then just replace it.
