  • Plotting out your allotment

Im putting my shed next to my greenhouse at the back of the plot, do you think 5ft is a sufficient amount of space to leave between the two bearing in mind that i'm going to be putting a water butt either side of the shed at the back and i want to be able to get them, is it enough space or too much, i personally think it would be just the right amount of space but im a total novice to this xx

How high is the shed and have you thought about the shade that it will cast on the greenhouse?

also try to be considerate to your neighbouring plotters when positioning the shed as shade could be detrimental to their efforts too. Something else to consider, is that if your shed is situated beside a path, it will be very prone to damage by vandals. We've had 4 sheds torched in three years on our site.

Yep, the shed is at the back of the plot with shade from some trees covering it, it doesnt have any effect on my neighbours or on the greenhouse which is to the right of the shed and therefore it gets sun all day. All my 'buildings' ie, greenhouse, shed, chickens are right at the back of the plot where the is tree cover and no paths nearby, the plots next to me are pretty much side by side maybe half a foot between, but not near any paths etc...

Here here from someone who is moving plot this year mainly due to the plot next door positioning a tall tool chest so that my soft fruit will be in shade for most of the day.

Sorry to hear that Wendy. It's a situation that could have been so easily avoided if your plot neighbour had just given a little thought to you.

I don't know, a tall tool chest sounds very easy to reposition...have you mentioned it to them? Or if you feel you can't, perhaps a word to the site secretary.

They might not be being intentionally inconsiderate....my God, since being on here, I've learnt and changed a few things...it's pretty easy to get blinker vision at the allotment, without necessarilly intending on making life tough on neighbours.
