  • Should I sharpen my tynes?

At long last my rotovator is back in one piece and ready to dig "OMG that's an allotment" not the whole thing just planting "strips".

However a question springs to mind, should I sharpen the tynes on the rotovator, you sharpen a spade or a hoe what about the tynes?
The idea of several razor sharp blades spinning, not too far from my feet makes me a "tad" nervous.

Does anyone have any views or experience on sharpening the tynes on a rotovator?

    Many thanks, Graham

I've never done it for what it's worth. It could possibly help with compacted ground but an edge would quickly be worn back due to the friction and contact with soil and stones.

IT won't stay sharp for long enough to make a difference, and if done repeatedly will surely shorten the life of your tynes

Importantly. What are you rotorvating in? Couch? Mares tail? Bindweed?

Make sure you remove all the perennial rhizome based weeds before rotorvating.

        Loving my allotment!
