  • I am back on it!!!

I feel so much better!!!! I've been down to the allotment today too ive put tarpaulin down to mark out where the shed is and i've started putting weed control matting down:

so the beds are starting to take shape, where i am stood on the photo will be the polytunnel and the blue in the bottom right corner is the tarpaulin for the shed.

The chickens will be next to the shed in the shade and, well i wanted a plastic coop because of the easiness for cleaning and red mite, but they just cost a fortune, so i was talking to a a guy down there today who has chickens and he seemed to be saying that his live in a wendy house!!

Well, for boo's 3rd birthday i got her a wendy house (this one):

Magic Play House Wendy House BNIB Boys Girls Pink Purple Toys in Swansea | Other Baby Related Items for Sale | Gumtree.com

with a bit of modifying i think they will be quite happy in here, obviously they will need a roosting perch and a nesting box, and it will need good ventilation and also to be quite dark but i can try, and its not costing me anything - What do you think?

A good day all round ive had!!

    xx

edited to say: oh and ive manged to 'cadge' a crab apple tree and a hazel tree. They are giving them away for free on our allotment xx

I thought I replied to this?

Feels great to be able to get to the plot, doesn't it. I've been mainly digging, also laid my first big bits of card down

If you manage to modify the house, make sure you secure it to the ground well. (had one up at ours for the kiddies one year...didn't secure it and first strong winds it got blown to pieces and ended up being blown onto several other plots )

Glad to read you're feeling better and if Boo's in the birthday mood treat her to a teddy bear party you know the sort of thing just a few buns and a drink then make daft hats and call it a party.
          Mine used to love them.

that wendy house seems easy enough to convert to a chook house, i went with a wooden shed because that way if keeping chickens didnt work out at least i still had a shed.

just screw some mesh over all the windows and put in some perches.

might blend in a bit more if you threw some green paint on it?

Well...Ive got a piece of external ply for the floor for £3 and some vinyl to go on top of the floor for £5, my dad is going to help me put some fibre glass matting on the roof of the house to make it waterproof as its got a big hole and a few cracks in it. Other than that i have been trying to work out the best options for windows etc...

Could you ask perhaps for this to be moved to Rule the Roost. You'd be more likely for Chicken experts to see it there. They could have some ideas.

Only thing I'll mention, if you have a vinyl floor, I'd keep it loose and not glue down. Your coop being plastic, mites might find under the vinyl a perfect home. If you can whip it out and clean, not a problem. x
