  • finding it hard to pay your plot rent?

If finding the money to pay your allotment rent in a lump sum is a problem, there is something else you may well not be aware of and this applies on both sides of the border.

Local authorities are not entitled to seek payment of more than 25% of allotment rents in advance if the annual rent is more than £1 (Section 10 of the 1950 English and Scottish Allotments Acts)

    Edit note : It's actually £1.25 in England . £1 for us

Apparently our rents used to be paid in two equal half yearly installments.

In the present climate, where we actually have a waiting list, it wouldn't be a bad way of providing a probationary period for the never ending body of 'time wasters'who take on a plot, come a couple of times and are never seen again.

This means that a plot is barren whereas someone on the waiting list could have been utilising it.

Statistical nightmare for the Association Treasurer though!
