A Plea To Alltotment Holders

Good Morning

Can someone please tell me where allotment holders get the big blue plastic containers which are used for water collection. Almost all of the allotments in my area are on mains water. I would like one to use as an additional water butt for the garden.

Hiya

I got mine from a hedge. Got spiked and covered in stuff but it had to be dragged out and put to use.

There's a guy in Derby who sells the 1000l containers on ebay for £25. He delivered mine to my plot for an extra £10

*Just looked and he doesn't have any at the moment.

Might be worth checking your local council's recycling web-page. Some authorities offer subsidised water-butts as well as composters.

On our site the plotters descend on them like vultures when a site gets vacated !

big cough...DH trawled round the factories and asked,he got them home and jet washed them out,but they seem to be not available now as they were,we got aprox 40 on our plots,plus have given several away,the big ones you have to cut the tops of,the others came with a lid,great for keeping the water clean,it's a matter of SCROUNGE AND SCROUNGE AND ASK,

Since I've been looking for them, I've been lucky enough to find two 200-odd litre barrels on remote sections of the local coastline. Lots of smaller ones as well which can be cut in half for trays and things. Carrying them back across the moors can be a bit tedious though.

Thank you all for your replies. Looks like I need to be scrabbling about in hedges, doing a raid on the local council tip or try scrounging at other allotments within driving distances.

We have a local printing company that gives them away, they need a swill out when you get them, but otherwise they are great

I got mine off freecycle- worth a look, if you have a local group.
